  • Spend at least 48 hours acclimatizing in Leh before visiting higher regions.
  • Drink plenty of water and walk slowly during your first few days.
  • Dress respectfully while visiting monasteries and religious sites.
  • Respect local traditions and greet people with a friendly "Juley".
  • Ask permission before photographing monks or local residents.
  • Carry reusable water bottles and dispose of waste responsibly.
  • Support locally owned hotels, cafés, guides and handicraft shops.
  • Follow weather forecasts and road advisories before travelling.
  • Keep a small medical kit and altitude medication if prescribed.

  • Don't rush directly to Pangong, Nubra, Tso Moriri or Khardung La on arrival.
  • Don't wear revealing or provocative clothing inside monasteries.
  • Don't disturb or feed wildlife including marmots, blue sheep, ibex or snow leopards.
  • Never drive your vehicle off-road across meadows, riverbeds or fragile alpine terrain.
  • Don't climb on stupas, Mani walls or prayer monuments for photographs.
  • Don't fly drones without local permission.
  • Don't leave plastic or litter anywhere in the mountains.
  • Don't play loud music near monasteries, villages or camps.
  • Never ignore symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
